Mgahinga Gorilla National Park.
The park consists of a chain six extinct and three sporadically active volcanoes which share the borders of Rwanda and Democratic Republic of Congo. Mgahinga was proclaimed with the primary aim of providing sanctuary to the rare mountain gorilla.
It is indeed a great privilege to be able to visit these enormously powerful and gentle creatures in their spectacular natural habitat-the tropical forest bordering the Virunga volcanoes.
Mgahinga supports a diverse forest and moorland fauna notably, the localized golden monkey and at least 12 bird species endemic to the Albertine Rift but also small populations of elephants, leopards, buffaloes and black-and-white calabus monkeys. < Back to National Parks |
